Mvezo the Village

The Mandela Royal Family's chieftaincy ruled the village Mvezo Village under the great Nkosi Mphakanyiswa, former late President Nelson Mandela’s father and current Nkosi Zwelivelile Mandela’s great grandfather. This chieftaincy was disrupted and annulled by the British when Nkosi Mphakanyiswa refused to honour an unjust summons by a British Magistrate to his office.

This summons came while he was busy with his own activities and responsibilities within his community. This was not taken very well by the magistrate who immediately took away his chieftaincy, his wealth, his homestead and banished them to Qunu as commoners.

News: Unveiling of the Mandela statue
